Start your journey in wine with WSET Level 2

WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is a beginner to intermediate course, which builds wine knowledge and practical wine tasting skills. Students learn about the major grape varieties, where they’re grown around the world and how to recognise their characteristics through tasting over 40 wine samples. It’s structured and easy to follow and if they pass the exam, participants receive an internationally recognised wine qualification.

For Steve Hovington, owner of the Cambridge Wine Academy, Level 2 provides a fascinating insight into the world of wine. ‘I have been a WSET Certified Educator for more than ten years and have trained over 1,000 students at Levels 1 to 3,’ says Steve. ‘I love teaching all the levels, but if I had to choose one I enjoy teaching above all, it would be Level 2. There’s a cross section of people who enrol. On my last course there was a vineyard owner, a freelance food and wine writer, a young sommelier starting out in a small, award-winning family-run bistro in Norfolk and a Wine Bar Manager beamed in all the way from Jordan.

‘There were others just doing it for love or because they were thinking about wine as a potential career or even just for a welcome escape from home schooling. Whatever the motivation, all were united by a curiosity and interest in wine.’
